Objects (Publications)

A digital object in the dLibra system is also called a publication. In the following section, those terms will be used interchangeably. A digital object in the dLibra system (a publication) is a set of information, for example: an article, a report, a user manual, or an image gallery. dLibra publications consist of files. In the simplest case, a publication may consist of just one file containing all information (for example, in the PDF or PS format, or an MS Word document). However, one publication may consist of many files of various types. The best example of such a publication is a web page with HTML, GIF, and other types of files.

Publication Releases

A publication release is a specific version of an electronic document. It can be compared to a book edition – subsequent digitized editions are new versions of the electronic document and, consequently, new publication releases. The publication release process is described in detail in the chapter on the mechanism of versionizing digital objects.
