All kinds of digital objects can be stored in the dLibra system, regardless of their digital format. They can be HTML pages, PDF files, graphics files, audio files, video files, 3D scenes, etc. By default, the digital objects (files) entered into the dLibra system are displayed to readers in the same format, without any modifications. However, there are certain exceptions to that rule. If specific extensions are added to the reader application, they make it possible to send additional information (other than the digital object itself), for example, HTML code which embeds a multimedia object, in order to make it easier for the reader to read the given resource. Such extensions are dedicated to particular formats of digital objects. For example, DjVu files can be sent unchanged (default system behavior), or they can be presented with the use of an extension, that is, a special program (HTML script) which opens in the user’s browser (in such a case, the user does not have to have special software for reading DjVu files installed, but JavaScript must be enabled).

Since version 6.1.0 of the dLibra system, pyramidal TIFFs are recommended in the case of objects which represent high-resolution digital images. For information about displaying such objects, see chapter [EN] 03. Presenting digital objects. For information concerning IIIF file configuration, see [EN] Supplement D: Configuring IIIF Files.
